I'm allergic to love.
The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous says that alcoholics like me are mentally and bodily different than our fellows.
It also states that I have an obsession of the mind and an allergy of the body.
This means that when I'm not drinking I think only about drinking and when I put the first drink into my body, the compulsion starts and I can't stop.
I have found this to be true.
But more than that, working the 12 steps has recently, through the death of my Mother, shown me how I am also allergic to love.
